RIMPAC (the Rim of the Pacific Exercise) is the world's largest international military naval exercise and it entails a significant aviation component. Twenty six (26) nations will participate in RIMPAC 2022, occurring here in Hawaii and in the Pacific off the California coast.  RIMPAC 2022 commences July 11 and runs through August 3, 2022 and the presence of its international military aviation traffic will demand an enhanced level of vigilance on the part of Hawaii General Aviation.  HCF has requested that you also be advised of the following:

  • During July 11-August 3, 2022, HCF will not be approving practice approaches at airports in the Hawaiian Islands between the hours of 8am-5pm (08:00-17:00) HST.
  • HCF additionally suggests that helicopters inbound to HNL from the Interchange remain as close to 1,000 feet AGL as possible over Ford Island so as to avoid numerous military helicopters which will be operating at 700 feet AGL in the same vicinity.
