Managing Component Failures and Abnormal Emergencies
Component Failure And Abnormal Emergencies Can Result In A Catastrophic Event.
Date and Time:
Thursday, July 21, 2022, starting at 14:00 Eastern Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Master Pilot Sam Gross
Brief Description:

So if a component unexpectedly fails on your aircraft, do you know what to do?  Planning, training, and preparation can promote more effective and timely responses to emergencies, such as total aircraft system failures, and give you the skills and knowledge to appropriately manage the chain of events that can lead to disaster.

Every pilot needs to prepare for the unexpected. Unexpected events often result from a configuration change and occur while close to the ground, leaving little to no time to think, let alone use a checklist. Your chances of a safe outcome are greatly improved when you immediately accept that the unexpected has happened and then take action.

In some cases, pilot skills and knowledge have not been sufficiently developed to prepare for the emergency. In other cases, an inappropriate reaction can start a chain of events that lead to disaster. Pilots are not always in the habit of revisiting and practicing how they will handle abnormal and emergency situations, except during flight reviews or other recurrent training.
