Preventing Wrong Way Takeoffs

The FAA Notice entitled: Increased Surveillance and Testing of Surface Movement Operations published on September 30, 2009, provides information placing increased significance during ground operations. This notice aims to help prevent wrong way takeoffs by identifying known contributing factors and by promoting pertinent operating procedures and training efforts. Please focus on the two Appendices entitled: Factors Contributing to Wrong Way Takeoffs and Runway Incursion Prevention: Best Practices. They will assist you in developing specific operating procedures and training to reduce the risk of runway incursions related to wrong way takeoffs.
