Runway Closure at Popular Ft. Lauderdale Airport
This posting will be removed on
Friday, May 31, 2013
On April 17, 2012, the Ft. Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL) will begin a long term runway construction project and RWY 9R/27L will be closed until September 18, 2014.  There will also be numerous taxiway closures.

All closures on April 17th will be depicted on a new product called “Airport Construction Diagrams.”  These diagrams and NOTAMS will be available at the Digital NOTAM Web Site (link below).  As construction progresses and closures change, stay updated by visiting the web site for the latest Airport Construction Diagrams and NOTAMs.

http://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/ Then enter the airport identifier, in this case FLL, in the search box. (By the way, "WEF" in a NOTAM means "With Effect From" and then the beginning date and time are shown.)

After the runway closure, Runway 13/31 will become active and pilots should be alert for crossing runway operations to ensure runway safety. If in doubt, stop and ask!

All aircraft including GA aircraft will be sequenced together.  Customers may experience arrival and departure delays up to 60 minutes, especially during high volume periods, because of reduced airport capacity. General Aviation aircraft arriving on VFR flight plans should expect delays equivalent to what other airport users are experiencing.

Airport construction changes our routines and expectations.  Advanced flight planning and situational awareness is essential to avoid mistakes and to ensure safe operations.
