Poughkeepsie ATCT LETTER TO AIRMEN NO. 12-02
SUBJECT: Runway Incursions
CANCELLATION: December 31, 2013
The purpose of this Letter to Airmen is to inform all participants of the importance of observing runway safety areas, runway markings and taxiway markings. A list of all runway markings and signs can be found in the aeronautical information manual (AIM) at:
http://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/ATpubs/AIM/aim0203.html
It is a best practice to slow taxi prior to a required stopping point in the event of a brake failure or other problem that may cause a runway incursion. It also is a best practice to leave an adequate distance between the aircraft and the required stopping point so that no part of the aircraft, particularly the wings or tail, is in the runway safety area even though the aircraft wheels may be clear of the marking.
Carefully study the taxi route and what you may expect to see on the ground or at the edge of the pavement.
Keep this information available and in sight while operating on the surface of an airport.
Increased Awareness must be maintained by all participants while taxiing
